Feature writing is described as a more “emotional” type of writing. It uses quotes, emotional cues, literary devices, vivid details, and narrative voice to show the reader what is happening. One of the main strengths of this type of writing is that it is great for storytelling, entertaining, and educating people because it uses a more creative and flexible style. It is a good choice for writers who want to explore human stories and connect with the audience on a more personal level.
However, it can also have some weaknesses. It requires more time and attention to detail, and it can be difficult to balance subjectivity because it is more flexible and leaves space for the writer’s creativity.
News writing follows a stricter structure, such as the inverted pyramid, and focuses on answering the 5 Ws of an event or story. It uses a more objective, neutral, and concise tone. This makes it better for delivering facts quickly while leaving aside emotional cues or personal opinions.
Both are strong writing styles, but the use of them really depends on the purpose and intention of the writing.
