In your opinion, what makes something newsworthy versus only sensational?
In my opinion, what makes something newsworthy is the relevance and impact of the news on the public. If a story is relevant to the audience, has some type of significance, and is current, then for me, that makes it newsworthy. Also, if a story is relatable and close to the audience, whether through proximity or emotion, I think it also falls into this category. This type of content tends to be more objective and informational.
However, sensationalism aims to generate a reaction or feeling, often at the expense of accuracy or honesty. The goal of this style is to draw attention, clicks, or engagement through emotion. It can be more subjective and does not focus on informing or analyzing a story. Rather, it focuses on creating a strong emotional response from the audience.
